In a shopping turn of events, embattled Activision CEO Bobby Kotick was voted to stay in his position for another year. The Activision Blizzard board of directors decided that there was no immediate need to remove him.
Kotick is the brains behind Activision Blizzard and the main reason why the company has seen so much success. However, a much bigger issue is looming: How does his extension affect the company?
It is true that Kotick has provided great leadership over the years as Activision’s CEO. Since 1991, he has driven the company in the right direction through creativity and offering a time and tested goal for success. Kotick says he is grateful for the opportunity to continue on as CEO. During his reprieve, he plans on working hard for the good of the company.
As Activision CEO, Kotick does not take the company’s success lightly. He gives all the credit to the fans who have stuck with the company through thick and thin.
“Our fans made us what we are today. We have tens of millions of fans all over the globe who are engaged and feel a clear sense of pride.”
Kotick stated that the most recognizable game in the franchise is Call of Duty. The company’s determination to deliver games that audiences want is the key. He says keeping fresh and new games in the Activision Blizzard arsenal is a responsibility that he takes seriously.
As Activision CEO, Kotick says he will continue to surprise the fan base with innovative products. As for how long his tenure will last, it’s anybody’s guess. But for right now, Kotick says he is only worried about what is happening right now.
“If my contract is extended beyond a year, that would be great. I’m not going to get mired down in the negative right now.”
