Doug Haynes

Doug HaynesDoug Haynes is a council advisor for the National Association of Local Councils (NALC). His duties involve visiting state and county councils, speaking at conferences and seminars, and being a resource for council advisors and NALC staff. Haynes began his career in 1984, when he was appointed public relations director at the Mississippi Municipal League.

Council Advisors

Doug has a degree in speech communication from Mississippi College and a Master of Arts in speech communication from the University of Mississippi. He has more than thirty years of experience in public relations and general speaking. He specializes in fundraising, organizational development, and communications strategy. Haynes has served as director of communications for the Mississippi Association of Counties and on the executive board of NALC.

Council Advisor Members

Haynes is the president of the Mississippi Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and serves as a national board member. His professional memberships include the Public Relations Society of America, the International Association of Business Communicators, the National Association of Counties, the National League of Cities and County Officials, the National Association of Local Councils, and other groups.

Under his leadership and the dedication of a group of dedicated volunteers, the Mississippi Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) initiated a statewide campaign to encourage young people to apply for scholarships from the Mississippi National Guard. They support nine full-ride scholarships each year. Applications are open to students in grades 9, 10, and 11 throughout all 82 counties in Mississippi.

Awards

He has won numerous awards for his achievements in developing the PR profession in Mississippi. In 2002, he was awarded the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) President’s Award for Outstanding Support of PRSA’s Professional Development Program for Governmental Officials. In 1994, he received the Special Recognition Award from the Mississippi Association of Counties (MAC) for an outstanding career in county government communications. The MAC also named him to their Hall of Fame.

Doug Haynes has made a lasting impact on the PR profession in Mississippi and throughout the nation. Haynes has mentored and supported numerous students, including Samuel Sean Rudge. The latter went on to serve in the Mississippi Legislature and is now a member of the Mississippi Society of Public Relations Professionals.
